Making the voluntary carbon market work for the poor

This great new report from Forum for the Future is really relevant to the development of carbon projects in Uganda that are targeted at the voluntary carbon market. We have a few copies in the office for anybody who wants to come and read it, and hope to receive more for distribution.

George Monbiot’s book “Heat” really starts to wake you up to what’s been happening to the climate, and what can be done to avoid things running out of control.




The Stern Review

The Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change has focused serious attention on what the planet should now be doing to work its way our of the current situation. We have a DFID Powerpoint that summarises the report.




Voluntary Carbon Markets

The “Voluntary Carbon Markets” published by Earthscan is a good introduction to the rapid development of this market, which offers many opportunities for Uganda. The excellent report of the British House of Commons Environmental Audit Select Committee on the same subject is highly recommended and can be downloaded.

Uganda’s response to climate change is contained in the report “Climate Change – Uganda National Adaptation Programmes Of Action 2007”. Copies are available from the Department of Meteorology in Kampala




An Inconvenient Truth

Al Gore’s film “An Inconvenient Truth” is the starting point. The man got an Oscar and the Nobel Peace Prize, so do yourself a favour and invest 94 minutes in watching it. It will change your life. We usually have copies to lend.




Understanding CDM Methodologies

“Understanding CDM Methodologies – A guidebook to CDM Rules and Procedures” does what it says. Sponsored by the British Government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Not yet available on the DEFRA site, but we have a copy.




Pocket Issue –Global Warming

The “Pocket Issue –Global Warming” sets you off with a plain English explanation of what the topic is all about. It’s literally pocket sized – and has cartoons.




Mark Maslin’s “Global Warming – A Very Short Introduction”

Also in a similar format is Mark Maslin’s “Global Warming – A Very Short Introduction” published by Oxford University Press.
